What made you want to play music?: My dad and uncle were in a band together back in the early 40s. My dad encouraged the 4 of us kids to get involved with music.

I first started playing a trumpet in 6th grade. My band teacher decided I was such a "talent" with that instrument that he switched me to trombone within a couple of months.

I stuck it out with the trombone until high school, where my new band teacher decided that his ears would suffer less if he switched me to the tuba.

I guess I didn't stink up the band hall quite so much with that, so I stuck with that through the end of my 2nd year of college. At least, no more band directors asked me to switch to a different instrument. Then again, I don't know what was left to switch me to!

Years later, I got it into my head to take up the guitar because I'd fallen in love with a Robert Earl Keen song and I wanted to learn how to play it. I got a teacher who figured the song out and I learned to play that song, and only that song, for the next 9 years or so. I still play that song today, and with luck, one of these days I'm going to get that song down pretty well.

Then I was so busy with work and my dojo that my wife pulled me aside and said that my family would like to see more of me.

I kept on working, but I said "goodbye" to the dojo the next day.

Rather than stare at the tube, I took up the guitar more seriously.

My family is kind enough not to ask me to take up a different instrument.
My Gear: An old Sigma Martin acoustic, an old Ventura classical, and Yamaha silent guitars, both acoustic and classical. I practice mostly on the silent guitars, which may account for why my family hasn't asked me to take up a different instrument.
Legacy courses I am taking: Learn and Master Guitar

Just talking about my struggles and success with L&M Guitar. My old boss at the brake repair shop once told me that attitude will take me places that talent never dreamed of. I'm finding that's especially true with my guitar playing.
