What made you want to play music?: For the most part, I was content seeing other people play live. However, after I got married and had kids, those opportunities occurred less and less. So I decided to take matters into my own hands and bought a Fender Strat and Fender Sidekick 15 practice amp.

My Gear: As of this writing, I own 4 guitars: A 2000 Fender Stratocaster (Made in Mexico), a 2007 Gibson Les Paul Mahogany, both purchased new; an Ovation Celebrity CC057 acoustic/electric that I bought used at a local pawn shop, and a 1984 Gibson Invader that I picked up at a garage sale for fifty bucks.

I play through a Vox AC-15 amp and occasionally use a DigiTech RP150 Multi-effects pedal, just for fun.

Previous Music Experience: My big push was when I was asked, near the end of 2007, to play rhythm guitar in all employee band for the company I work for. I owned only my Strat at the time and was having second thoughts of whether I should continue to learn to play the thing. Suddenly, I was practicing with a band, in a professional studio. Six weeks later, I played in front of 400 people to kick off our 2008 annual employee meeting. (I only knew 2 songs, but that's all we had to play). We got a standing ovation. Let me tell you, there's no feeling like that in the world! I went out and bought my Gibson Les Paul in celebration. After that, there was no turning back.
Legacy courses I am taking: Learn and Master Guitar
Overview

I guess I'm just your average Joe (not to be confused with Joe Six-pack).  I live a content suburban life with a wife and two teenage kids, who sometimes drive me and my wife insane, but who are for the most part, very good kids, bordering on young adults. We also live with a dog and two cats.  I am fortunate to have a secure job, which I feel has unfortunately, become too rare a commodity these days.

When I look back in recent history, one of the eras that really upsets me is the 1960's. For a short time, music and young people changed the world. They started with a vision that some (myself not included) thought naive; to create a mostly non-materialistic society based on love and acceptance, rather than the one succumb to the corruption greed and prejudice they saw in the society created by their elders. For a short while, they stood the world on its side and made everyone take notice. But then they let drugs take over and they lost focus of their vision. The drugs became their focal point instead of the changes they were trying to make in the world. They did change the world to some degree, but they could have done so much more. Unfortunately, most of the change they did accomplish in that short period would end up being lost in the decades to follow. I often wonder how different the world would be today had drugs not taken over during that period and the young people would have been able to really change the world.
