Hello.

I purchased L&M Piano from eBay at a discount, but when I received it, I found that it was from 2007. I remember reading that the book, at least, had been updated in 2009.

I was wondering if there was any actual disadvantage to this, such as updated content, or if it more or less the same.

Cheers,
Mitch.

Welcome Very Happy

They're the same, only the book is updated.

I, too, have the 2007 course/book. I have also downloaded the 2009 manual. I THINK the CD's/DVD's are the same - just a change in the manual. Here are my views of the two manuals:

2007 manual "Key Ideas" - "Nugget" - "Playing tip" etc are all within a box that is easy to spot on the page and draws your attention to them. The new manual has the same items, but they don't jump out at you - and easy to miss.

2009 manual does correct some minor finger numbering errors.

2009 manual, pg 4 - 5, has not only a list of all the CD files, it also notes the Beats Per Minute (BPM).. I find this helpful as I can set my metronome and practice that way as well.

2009, Session 3 - "Skills to Master - Playing a Melody by Ear". Now if I could master that in Session 3, I'd stop right there. In the 2007 book it says "Try to pick out the notes.....from the C scale". Big difference in what to get from Session 3. I know, minor point.

Session 4 - 2009 manual print/notes are a LOT smaller than the 2007 manual. 2007, the 3 Bass Clef's are 1/2 of the page - 2009 - 1/6 of the page. True on all page differences between the two manuals. My eyes LOVE the 2007 book. (Heck, I'm 74!!)

Session 5. No "When the Saints" in the 2009 manual. What you miss is the first time the music is using chord number system. Like C(1) -- the "1" being the root.

Also in Session 5 the melody line for "Lazy" is missing in the 2009 book. My best guess is this is due to copyright reasons. But I like to play this tune using left/right hand and sometimes I'll play chords in the left hand and sometimes swap and play chords in the right hand (melody would change as well). This is great practice for me -- I need to get my hands working together!!

Bottom line: I suggest printing out the 2009 manual and as you progress from lesson to lesson make a comparison between books - use what you need from each.. Myself, I'll stick to the 2007 book and just check the 2009 whenever I progress to the next session. (progress here is slow)
