Guys I'm trawling you tube and T'internet comparing SG's versus LP's.
I know I have to try them myself to decide, which I hope to do in March when I go to UK.
but I dont hear much about SG's on this forum??
This will be my first Elect guitar , never tried one before!
No can of worms opening intended, just some opinions.
Cheers. _________________ Lost in Northern Europe.

They get mentioned occasionally, but you're right - nothing to the extent of LPs. About all I recall hearing/reading about them is how "top-heavy" they are - meaning at the headstock and neck. A lot of folks seem to have a balance issue with that. _________________ Craig in Indy

I like SGs they do put a certain genre of music into mind when you see certain guitars.

Actually I prefer the SG body over the LP and I know there are others here who do as well. They have great tone, they are just not as popular. I just like the feel of it over the LP (personal preference) and it doesn't feel like a boat anchor hanging on your shoulder. _________________ MikeM ♫

| I briefly had an SG and an LP. I found them to sound quite similar but the SG was much lighter and was very unbalanced (neck heavy). I prefer the LP and eventually sold the SG. I know a few people who have SG's though and swear by them, and I've played some that were definately better balanced, so it really all depends on the particular guitar. |

| I had an SG. Wound up modding it and turned it into a hot rod machine. Realized its not what I really wanted out of the guitar then traded it to member of a local metal band for a strat. I liked how it felt, lightweight and nice sustain. Plus I didn't need another SG guitar (already had a '73 Guild SD Deluxe). Great guitar if you like to play "balls to the wall" music... |

I have an SG, black, love it, play it more than any of my other guitars, I don't notice any balance issues with it, but maybe i'm just used to it.
I can get alot of different tones out of it, rock, metal, country. For me, I love me some ac/dc and angus plays an SG, plus i couldn't afford a LP,, LOL |

Hey Paul,
Yeah I haven't seen much posting about SG's on this forum either, but, admittedly, I'm pretty new here (so perhaps there was an SG gas craze here some time ago).
I've actually never played an SG either, but it's on the top of my list the next time I visit Guitar Center (which doesn't happen often, but perhaps visiting once is too often). According to Gibson, the SG is their best selling guitar of all time -- I would have certainly guessed it would've been the Les Paul (even with its hiatus after the original SG was introduced -- as a new "Les Paul" no less). Like LPs, Strats, and Teles I think they are legions of players who swear by their respective favorites. Best to check them out yourself and find out -- or get them all, haha, that works too.
http://everythingsg.com/ is a great resource if you are looking for more info on SGs.
Let us know your impressions when you finally get a chance to finally play one. _________________ Session 5 |

i have to say i love the Angus riffs and sound. But at home it's hardly the stuff to be blasting the neighbours with every day
I'd like to sit and play it which will be the regular position just me n the Git-tar! So The sg would have to be able to play more than AC\DC.
will try a few versus the LP.
cheers guys n gals _________________ Lost in Northern Europe.

I get good classic rock/country sounds out of the SG and my tube amp without any effects.
Its a versatile guitar, but so are most quality guitars. I have a Strat and a Tele as well and ac/dc sounds good on them too. |
