Just like the title says, whats everyone using (USB mics only, not looking to spend a bundle just yet), and how would you rate it?

Well dont all reply at once Smile. To add to my question how about portable audio recorders?

Essentially I am just looking for a low cost solution to record my progress. I would like to be able to record both acoustic and electric with relatively good sound quality and ease.

http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/AudioTechnica-AT2020USB-USB-Condenser-Microphone?sku=272999

I never saw this post until now...

I just got this one a few weeks ago. it is very impressive, in that It will pick up my foot lightly tapping....and the birds singing outside. Ok so my "music room" needs some sound proofing and damping effects, but that aside the mic is very nice, and it comes with a seeming high quality set of headphones.

+1 ..... This is the one I bought last year. I put the recordings I have on the Community Music site up using this mic in front of my amp (or NOT, for some of the acoustic recordings).

It does a fine job on both acustic & electric.

Tied also mentioned he has the same mic and thinks highly of it as well.

I didn't respond because you said you didn't want to spend a lot of money. I go for quality or I don't buy. Wink

I should have said, "I didn't respond earlier because you said you didn't want to spend a lot of money. I go for quality or I don't buy." Wink

You're in enough trouble now. If I were you I'd dive into that vat of Jell-O & go incognito for a bit. Very Happy

Its an excellent mic. I have one that I use with a XLR jack for a set of preamps & get pretty good sound quality.

Precisely why I don't buy generic Jell-O. Wink
